‘Hey, TED-Ed Club — What’s up!’
This call-to-attention of our TED-Ed Club always brought smiles to our members’ faces because it meant engaging in fun and supportive sharing sessions.
The biggest win of our TED-Ed Club experience at Brainz Edu World School has been developing a safe space for sharing. Its been a wonderful experience so far to see the gradual and constant improvement in the quality of interaction among students as they discover the joy of receiving and giving constructive feedback to each other. We are all absolute fans of the constructive feedback resource!
After the first couple of sessions, students began exploring the answers to the various questions put up to them in greater depth and learned what it means to look beyond the surface to better understand their own personalities, motivations, and passions.
When the time came to finalize their own TED-Ed Talk topic, our group understood the meaning of ‘thinking global and acting local’ as they began to value small everyday actions that when clubbed together make a bigger impact. Our members came up with all kinds of interesting Talk ideas!
One of our club members talked about her observation of the preferential treatment given to the male members of her family and shared stories of her mother’s role in making her see herself as a strong, independent and confident individual. Another member talked about wanting to combine her love for Bollywood movies and her wish to create positive and meaningful experiences for the underprivileged children of her local community. Yet another talked about how he is fuelled by a desire to excel in every field that he pursues and how he kept his motivation up even when he was cheated of an important title by his coach as a young kid.
Even as an educator, I find myself looking forward to attending every TED-Ed session. All our discussions so far have been extremely fun and interesting. Every club member had a unique story to share — a story that they themselves were surprised to discover. And the joy of discovering something new about their own selves is unparalleled.
We are now looking forward to finalizing our TED-Ed Talks and sharing them with the global community.
